Central to the successful bid to host the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games in London were the government’s wide-ranging legacy commitments. These included the aim of re-energising school sport, with a focus on competition and creating a sporting habit for life in young people. Schools with primary-age pupils receive an additional ‘PE and Sport Premium’ grant, which must be spent on making additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport, for the benefit of all pupils to encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles. Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport they offer. Examples of how this funding may be used include:

  • hire of qualified sports coaches to work with teachers
  • providing existing staff with training or resources to help them teach PE and sport more effectively
  • introducing new sports or activities and encourage more pupils to take up sport
  • supporting and involving the least active children by running or extending school sports clubs, holiday clubs and Change4Life club
  • running sport competitions
  • increasing pupils’ participation in the School Games
  • running sports activities with other schools

We are using our PE and Sport Premium Grant to improve our provision and to inspire our children not only to participate now but to develop a lifelong enjoyment of physical activity and sport. Full details of how much PE and Sport Premium Grant we have received and exactly how we are spending it can be seen in the document below.
