At Wickham Church of England Primary School we value strong links between home, school and our local community. Please use the menu on the left to find out about these important partnerships.

The Friends of Wickham CE Primary School is the parent teacher association for the School.   Constituted as a charity (number 1030439), FOWPS has the objective of “advancing the education of the pupils at the school”. It does this by:

  • Developing effective relationships between the staff, parents and others associated with the School;
  • Engaging in activities or providing facilities or equipment which support the School and advance the education of the pupils.

The association is controlled by a committee which is elected annually at the AGM.   The members of the Association are:

  • the parents, guardians or carers of any pupil currently attending the School
  • the teaching and non-teaching staff currently employed by the School
  • any person over the age of 18 wishing to offer appropriate support or help to the School and who is accepted by the Committee as a Member.

The Headteacher is the President of FOWPS.

The committee meets each term to plan future events and to discuss bids for spending.   All parents and carers are welcome to give their views on FOWPS matters direct to any member of the committee, or by e-mail to: f[email protected] The Annual General Meeting is held in the Autumn term and all members of the Association are encouraged to come along to the meeting and give their views.

FOWPS Events and Fundraising

The FOWPS committee arranges a variety of events each year.   The main fundraising activities are the Christmas and Summer Fayres, but there are also events to celebrate Mothers Day and Fathers Day.   FOWPS also arranges an Easter Egg Hunt and Easter Bonnet Parade for the children, twice-yearly discos and a Secret Santa, and provides support such as teas, soft drinks and food at other School functions.

There is always a need for helpers at events and parents and carers who can offer their time are encouraged to speak to a member of the committee.   Good ideas for fundraising activities are also always welcome!

The various events normally raise about £4,500 each year for FOWPS’ funds.   In addition, we have been very grateful in recent years to receive donations from the Wickham Beer Festival (£1,500 in 2012) and from HSBC (£1,500 in 2012 and 2013, and £3,000 in 2014).

A major fundraising exercise in 2014 was our participation in the Co-op’s ‘Community Support Programme’.   By using a ‘community support card’ each time they shopped at the Co-op in Wickham village, our supporters built up a donation of £20,000 from the Co-op that was used to fund the ‘Trim Trail’ in the School grounds.

FOWPS ‘Stay At Home’ Competitions

During the school closure, FOWPS will be running ‘Stay at Home’ competitions for children to enter for fun from home.  The competition winners and runners up will each receive a certificate by email and will be announced here and on the school’s Facebook page.
