VALUES

Wickham Church of England Primary School was founded by St Nicholas’ Church in 1868 and important documents, including a Trust Deed, define how our school is run today. Our Statutory Instrument of Government states:

Recognising its historic foundation, the school will preserve and develop its religious character in accordance with the principles of the Church of England and in partnership with the Church at parish and diocesan level. The school aims to serve its community by providing an education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice. It encourages an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith and promotes Christian values through the experience it offers to all its pupils.

Our School Vision exemplifies our determination to offer our children an excellent education and as a Church of England School we offer a spiritual dimension to our provision. All schools play a significant part in developing children’s values whether intentional and explicit or not. Children learn values at school from relationships, everyday classroom interactions and from explicit teaching. Church schools have Christian beliefs and values at their heart.

Our values are the things that we believe in deeply, that shape our attitude to life, the world around us and other people. Within a Church of England school, the values that we instil in children are based in the Christian tradition and are illustrated through Christian stories. At Wickham Primary School, we have chosen to base our ethos around the three core values of Love, Courage and Respect as these are the things that we would want our children to display in life and fall back on when times are difficult or there are tricky choices to be made.

Through our core value of Love, we recognise that God the Father is love. When we show His love to others, God lives in us.

Through our core value of Courage, we recognise that because Jesus had the courage to give his life for us, we must have the courage to stand up for God’s values.

Through our core value of Respect, we recognise that the Holy Spirit comes alive in us when we value each other and celebrate our differences.
